Retraction of Identity: 2019 - 2020

“If someone were to ONLY see a photograph of you, what would you want them to know about you or your life?”

A body of photographic created in collaboration with 6th grade students of St. Theresa Catholic School: Little Rock, AR

Cyanotype Photographs and Pen on Hot Pressed Watercolor Paper

I am perplexed and saddened that we are living in a society where any child is made to feel that they are “less” because of their ethnicity.  They are using their words and their voice to prove their value in a society that tells them they are not valuable because of the way they look, the languages they speak, or the place they were born. I believe that it is my obligation as an image maker and an adult to provide a platform for these children to tell their stories. All pieces in this body of work were created collaboratively with my 6th grade students. All writing is the students response to the question presented above.
